About us
Darley is HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's global breeding operation which currently stands stallions in six countries around the world.
Darley was established in 1981 at Dalham Hall Stud, Newmarket UK, and takes its name from one of the three Arabian stallions imported into England in the early 18th Century. From these three horses - the Darley Arabian, the Godolphin Arabian and the Byerley Turk - all modern day thoroughbreds are descended.
Darley commenced operations with one stallion and employed fewer than ten people at Dalham Hall Stud. Today, Darley's global racing and breeding operations directly employ some 1,300 people.
Today, Darley stands more than 60 thoroughbred stallions through out Australia, Britain, Ireland, Japan, and the United States of America. Each year Darley may stand a number of stallions in association with other breeding operations, such as Haras Du Logis, in France. Darley does not have a stud farm in Dubai but a city based representation to assist local or visiting clients with their thoroughbred-related enquiries.
In addition to standing stallions, Darley manages the racing interest of Sheikh Mohammed (racing in the maroon and white silks), and various members of the Maktoum family and has racehorses with trainers in the UK, Ireland, France, Dubai, the USA, Australia and Japan. The best of these horses will transfer to Godolphin, to race in the famous blue silks that have been carried to victory in numerous Group 1 (G1) races across the globe.
