Amira's Prince reigns in G2 Mervin H. Muniz Jr. Handicap

Second Graded Stakes win in a row for son of Teofilo

Teofilo's four-year-old son Amira's Prince won his fourth in a row since crossing the Atlantic March 30, as the 8-5 favorite in the G2 Mervin H. Muniz Jr. Handicap at Fair Grounds. It was the second Graded Stakes win in a row for the colt, who impressed in the G2 Mac Diarmada Handicap by nearly four lengths mid-February.

In the one and one-eighth mile turf race Amira's Prince took position on the lead to set the pace. When challenged in the stretch Amira's Prince took charge and held strong for the win.

Bred by Gigginstown House Stud, Amira's Prince is out of the Green Desert mare Twice The Ease, who has also produced listed winner and G3-placed Hen Night. Amira's Prince's granddam is Irish Champion Easy To Copy, the dam of G3 winner Two-Twenty-Two, and Listed winners Easy Definition and Desert Ease. The family also traces back to multiple G1 winner Talking Picture.

Amira's Prince was the second Stakes winner on the day for Teofilo, as Miblish took his Stakes debut in the Magnolia Stakes at Kempton Park. Teofilo is also the sire of G1 Dewhurst Stakes winner Parish Hall from his first crop of runners, and exciting G1 winner Loch Garman from his second crop.
