Another impressive maiden winner for Raven's Pass

Singersongwriter calls the tune at Doncaster with first-time-out success

Just two days after Secret Number won on debut at Kempton to become the twelfth winner for Raven's Pass, the first-season sire was responsible for another well-related debutante winner at Doncaster with the two-and-three-quarter length victory of Singersongwriter in the seven-furlong maiden.

The half-sister to Group winners Mount Nelson and Monitor Closely runs in the colours of her breeder, Philip Freedman’s Cliveden Stud, and is the sixth winner for her dam Independence, a daughter of Selkirk.

Raven’s Pass will be represented on Saturday in the G1 Racing Post Trophy by Steeler, who won the Listed Peter Willett Stakes at Goodwood followed by the G2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket. His other black-type earners from his first crop include Interesting and Glean, both of whom are Group-placed winners, and the Chesham Stakes-placed Lovely Pass.

Raven's Pass, by Darley America stallion Elusive Quality, stands at Kildangan Stud in Ireland and Darley's European wing will be welcoming another son of Elusive Quality to its ranks for 2013 when Australian multiple Group One-winning sprinter Sepoy joins the line-up at Dalham Hall Stud.
