ATC Cup To Malice

Teofilo gelding wins first Stakes race

A narrow last start winner, four-year-old Teofilo gelding Malice stepped up to the 2000m for the first time this campaign and produced a very good effort to chase down the leader to record his first Stakes victory, winning the Listed ATC Cup at Rosehill in Australia.

G3 placed during his Classic season behind Dubawi’s multiple Stakes winner Arabian Gold, the John O’Shea-trained gelding was given a very good ride by jockey Sam Clipperton who had him settled in fourth position on the rails. Coming around the home turn, Malice was following the leader Metaphorical and when she went for home he came off her heels to chase her down, becoming the 33rd Stakes winner for his sire.

Bred by Darley in Australia, Malice is the first foal out of the Encosta de Lago mare Aforethought, a half-sister to the stakes performers Beauty Express and Money Rocks. With an Exceed And Excel yearling filly, Aforethought produced a full brother to Malice in October.

With six individual G1 winners to his credit highlighted by Classic winners Trading Leather and Voleuse de Coeurs and G1 winning juveniles Parish Hall and Loch Garman, Teofilo will be standing in 2015 at Kildangan Stud for a fee of €50,000 Oct 1st, SLF.
