Baltic Baroness takes her second Stakes race in France

Daughter of Shamardal lands the Grand Prix de Compiegne

Baltic Baroness, a four-year-old daughter of Shamardal, landed her second career Stakes races on Wednesday June 25 when easily taking the Listed Grand Prix de Compiegne over 2000m. The winner of the G3 Prix Cleopatre last season, she has been running in top company this season and appreciating the step down in class only had to be nudged out to the line to record a ready one-and-a-half length success.

Owned and bred by Gestut Ammerland, Baltic Baroness if a half-brother to two Stakes performers in Baltic Rock and Baltic Storm. Her dam, the winning Sadler's Wells mare Born Wild, who is a daughter of German Derby winner Borgia, has been tested back in foal to Shamardal again this season.

Baltic Baroness is one of three Stakes winners by Shamardal out of Sadler's Wells mares, all of which were foaled in 2010, with the other two being German 1,000 Guineas heroine Akua'da and this season's Dubai G2-winner Excellent Result.

Shamardal has now sired 17 Stakes winners in 2014 including G1w Dan Excel, winner of the International Cup at Kranji, G2-winners Sommerabend, Fintry and Ghibellines and multiple Dubai Classic winner Ihtimal. Shamardal stands at Kildangan Stud alongside his G1-winning son Casamento.
