Calipatria strolls to success in Germany

Daughter of Shamardal takes the Listed Henkel-Trophy

Calipatria, a daughter of Shamardal, gained some valuable Black-type for her impressive pedigree when running out a convincing winner of the Listed Henkel-Trophy in Germany. Trained in France by Henri-Alex Pantall, she was held up last early and despite being keen she showed a tremendous turn of foot in the straight to win going away by three-and-a-half lengths.

Bred by the Aldridge Racing Partnership, Calipatria is a daughter of the multiple G2-winning juvenile Golden Silca, who trained on at three to finish second in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. Golden Silca is also a full sister to Silca’s Sister, winner of the G1 Prix Morny as a juvenile.

Calipatria became Shamardal’s second new Stakes winner of the day after Van Ellis had earlier scored at Chester. This takes her impressive sires’ Stakes winning haul to 39 with 11 coming just in 2012. Shamardal has sired seven G1 winners including dual Classic winner Lope de Vega, Racing Post Trophy hero Casamento and his brace of 2012 scorers Crackerjack King and Sagawara.
