Delightful dozen for New Approach

Bunairgead wins well at Leopardstown to become the latest winner for her leading first-season sire

New Approach, who has enjoyed a truly outstanding year with his first crop of runners, took his total number of winners to 12 on 4 November when Bunairgead ran out the easy winner of the seven-furlong maiden at Leopardstown.

Settled in third position under Ronan Whelan, Bunairgead began her challenge two furlongs from home and making light of the testing conditions, eased clear once taking the lead and ran on well to win by three lengths.

Owned and bred by Jim Bolger, Bunairgead is out of Stakes winner Montecito, who was also G2 placed on three occasions. The dam is herself out of Test Stakes winner Storm And Sunshine, making her a half-sister to two further Stakes winners.

New Approach, Europe’s leading first-season sire, is also sire of unbeaten dual G1 winner Dawn Approach, plus three further Black type performers. His 52 yearlings to sell this year have averaged a very healthy £117,000.
