Dubawi tops the colts at Arqana

Son of Darley’s leading young sire sells for €450,000; Raven’s Pass colt brings €220,000

Dubawi, sire of 33 Black type performers so far this year including nine Group winners, was responsible for the highest-priced colt on the first day of Arqana’s August Yearling Sale.

His son of G3 winner Marine Bleue, who was consigned by La Motteraye, was knocked down to Jehan Malherbe of Form Bloodstock for €450,000. The handsome bay colt is half-brother to three winners (from three foals to race out of the mare), including Halling’s Stakes-winning daughter Marina Piccola.

Dubawi had two further yearlings sell on the day, both of whom achieved six-figure sums. Lot 40, a colt out of Oulianovsk (herself a daughter of G2 winner and G1-placed mare Ode), sold for €140,000 to Marco Bozzi, while two lots later the first foal out of Listed winner Peach Pearl was bought by FBA for €105,000.

There was also success for Raven's Pass, whose half-brother to G1 winner Mast Track sold for €220,000 to Agence FIPS. Consigned by Haras des Capucines, he is out of G3 performer Nawal, who is also dam of G2-placed filly Sagitta Ra.

A few lots later, a colt by Authorized – who has been enjoying a recent run of success on the racecourse – was bought by trainer Nicolas Clement for €110,000. Offered for sale by Haras d’Ellon, he is out of the Pivotal mare Red Begonia, already dam of a Black type performer in Robert le Diable. They are from the family of G1 winner Red Bloom.

The sale continues today.
