Excellent Result for Shamardal

Four-year-old colt becomes his sires 30th Group winner

Shamardal sired his 30th individual Group winner on Saturday March 8, when his four-year-old son Excellent Result won the G2 Dubai City of Gold on his first attempt at Stakes level. Held up in the mile-and-a-half contest, he had to wait for the gaps to appear in the straight under jockey Kieron Fallon but when they came he surged to the front for a narrow victory.

Bred by Tom and Geraldine Molan, he is one of three winners out of the Sadler's Wells mare Line Ahead, who is herself a half-sister to South African G1w Potala Palace (Singspiel) and from the family of Classic-winner Golan.

Excellent Result becomes the third Group winner from Shamardal's 2010 crop (his fourth in Europe), all of which have been out of mares sired by Sadler's Wells.

Shamardal, who stands this season at a fee of €50,000, has sired seven top-flight winners from his first three European crops including multiple Classic winner Lope de Vega, last seasons Champions Mile victor Dan Excel, and fellow Kildangan resident Casamento (standing this season at €5,000), who won the Racing Post Trophy as a juvenile. Covering for the first time in 2013, Casamento has his first foals on the ground from a first book that included 151 mares that were very closely related to Stakes horses.
