Our Obsession in Galtres glory

Improving Shamardal filly wins her third straight race

Our Obsession, a lightly-raced three-year-old daughter of Shamardal, took the step up in class to stakes level in her stride when landing the Listed Galtres Stakes at York on Thursday August 22. Only making her fourth career start, and only her second of the season, she has now won her last three races and holds numerous Group entries later in the season including the G1 British Champion Fillies' And Mares Stakes at Ascot on Champions Day.

Owned and bred by Anthony Oppenheimer, Our Obsession is a half-sister to multiple winner Westwiththenight (Cape Cross) and out of the Daylami mare Hidden Hope. A half-sister to G1 Coronation Stakes winner Rebecca Sharp, Hidden Hope also has a filly foal by New Approach.

Our Obsession becomes Shamardal's 29th Stakes horse of 2013, with eight of those winning at Group level. He has a pair of G1-winners in Dan Excel (registered as Dunboyne Express) and Maybe Discreet; Mukhadram, who won the G2 York Stakes; German classic-winner Akua'da; Puissance de Lune, a multiple G2-winner in Australia and favourite for the Melbourne Cup and Group-winning juvenile filly Ihtimal, who took the Sweet Solera Stakes earlier this month.
