At the ready!

New Approach could hardly have had a better year so far with his first crop of three-year-olds, with two Classic winners helping to put him almost a million pounds ahead of his nearest rival in the European second crop sires’ list.

His next crop is now starting to make its presence felt and on a superb day at Doncaster for the Darley stallions and Godolphin, his two-year-old son Be Ready posted an eye-catching performance to land the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes.

Sent off as favourite to land the seven-furlong contest, the flashy chestnut colt (who bears more than a passing resemblance to his paternal half-brother Dawn Approach) was always travelling well under Silvestre de Sousa and once asked to quicken, powered clear to win by three lengths.

Bred by Thomas Hassett, Be Ready is out of the unraced Gone West mare Call Later, a half-sister to four-time G1 winner Ventura.

New Approach is also sire this year of the aforementioned Dawn Approach, who will look to increase his number of G1 victories to five in next month’s QEII Stakes; plus Oaks winner Talent, who will aim to become the first filly since 1992 to land the world’s oldest Classic. She will line up against two of New Approach’s other talented performers in Libertarian and Cap O’Rushes.
