Shamardal sires his 38th Stakes winner

Van Ellis takes the Queensferry Stakes at Chester

Shamardal’s three-year-old son Van Ellis, became his sires 38th Stakes winner on Sunday August 5 when he landed the Queensferry Stakes over six-furlongs at Chester. Held up on the outside early, he asserted on the entrance of the short straight and held on gamely to beat former Group winner Night Carnation by a neck.

Bred by Dennis Yardy, he was a 140,000Gns yearling purchase and is out of the Stakes-winning Barathea mare Jalousie, who also has a juvenile colt by Manduro who was retained by his breeder and is in training with Roger Varian. Named Duroble Man he holds an entry in the Royal Lodge Stakes later this season.

Now sire of 10 Stakes winners in 2012, Shamardal is also responsible for top-flight scorers Crackerjack King and Sagawara, as well as a pair of colts rated 121 by Timeform in Zazou and Sharestan.
