1-2 for Shamardal at Royal Ascot

Born In Bombay leads home Bow Creek in the Britannia

Shamardal’s three-year-old son Born In Bombay has been a consistent performer for his sire and on 19 June, he proved he was capable of winning on the biggest stage of them all when landing the Britannia Stakes (pictured), ahead of his paternal half-brother Bow Creek.

The Andrew Balding-trained colt was always in a prominent position in the stands-side group and ran on superbly to take the one-mile contest by half a length from HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed al Maktoum’s Bow Creek. Born In Bombay has now won twice, finished second once and third once in his four career starts.

Bred by George Strawbridge, Born In Bombay is out of the G1 performer Pearl Dance, making him a half-sister to G3 Prix Chloe winner and G2 performer Sparkling Beam.

Shamardal has been enjoying an outstanding year so far, siring no fewer than 16 individual Stakes winners including G1 winner Dunboyne Express, plus Guineas third Ihtimal and G1 Champions’ Mile second Able Friend.
