14 winners for Raven’s Pass

Mutashaded impresses on debut at Yarmouth to become the latest winner for his first-season sire

Two-year-old colt Mutashaded looked to be a smart performer in the making, winning on his racecourse debut to become the 14th individual winner and third successful debutante in less than a week for first-season sire Raven's Pass.

Held up towards the rear under Andrea Atzeni, Roger Varian’s charge soon quickened when asked and ran on well to win by a length and a quarter, with a further two-and-three-quarter lengths back to the third-placed horse.

Owned and bred by Shadwell, Mutashaded is out of the winning Monsun mare Sortita – a full-sister to no fewer than three G1 winners in Schiaparelli, Samum and Salve Regina.

Raven’s Pass is also sire of Royal Lodge Stakes winner and G1 Racing Post Trophy third Steeler, plus a further three Black type performers. Another of his winners, Great Timing, will also aim for Black type when she lines up in this Saturday’s Listed Montrose Fillies’ Stakes at Newmarket.
