What is a 116 load rating?

For example, a light truck tire with a load index of 120/116 means a load capacity for a single tire of 3,086 pounds and a load capacity of 2,756 pounds for two tires. The reason the capacity for two tires is lower than a single tire is to make sure that the vehicle can continue to carry the load should one tire fail.

Do I need 10 ply tires?

Not just relegated to toilet paper, a tire’s “ply” is an older term referring to the internal layers of a tire’s construction. The more layers, the higher the load capacity (or the more weight it can support). If you drive a ¾ ton, one ton or even larger pickup or SUV (or haul a trailer) then you require 10-ply tires.

Can I use V rated tires instead of W?

Nissan, Cadillac, Toyota, and Honda are currently using higher original equipment or V-rated tires on approximately 70% of their brand new vehicles. A V rating represents 149 mph but no faster. W, on the other hand, means the tires can achieve maximum speeds of up to 168 mph.

Can I mix V and W rated tyres?

The final rating is the maximum speed the tyre is legally approved for. You can invalidate your car insurance by fitting new tyres that have a lower speed rating than the manufacturer’s original fit. Mixing tyre speed ratings isn’t recommended.
