Do spray bars reduce flow?
Do spray bars reduce flow?
Spray bars do have some benefits. One of these benefits is that you can spread out the water which is coming out of the filter. In other words, instead of a high-velocity jet of water coming out of a nozzle, the water is distributed into a bunch of smaller streams with a lower velocity.
Is a spray bar necessary?
Whether you need a spray bar or not entirely depends on your current setup. If your aquarium has good surface agitation and movement already, then a spray bar doesn’t have much to offer. But if you have dead spots in your tank or are looking for some gentle water movement, a spray bar is just the tool you need.
Do you need an Airstone with a spray bar?
You do not need an airstone at all as long as you have enough surface movement for gas exchange. You will be fine with just the spraybar.
Which direction should my fish tank filter outlet be pointing?
Fish require enough oxygen in the water to help them to breath. The more surface water movement there is, the more oxygen can transfer in to the water, therefore if you have the filter outlet pointing towards the surface of the water it helps this process along.
Does surface agitation increase oxygen?
Surface agitation promotes gas exchange – the agitation increases the rate at which oxygen (O2) dissolves in water. It also increases the rate at which carbon dioxide (CO2) is released from the water. The amount of oxygen in your aquarium plays a major role in determining how many fish you can keep in your tank.
What is a spray bar?
Compatible with two types of filters, a spray bar is a plastic attachment that looks a little like a flute. The spray bar spreads water evenly, onto either the surface of the water or onto filter media.
What is sponge filter?
What Are Sponge Filters? Sponge filters are precisely what the name implies, a sponge through which the aquarium water is drawn. This provides mechanical filtration, and once the sponge has matured and grown bacterial colonies, it provides biological filtration as well.
